We are the first independent Piano Study Centre in London located within the Professional and Higher Education setting.
Piano Study Centre at Goldsmiths - We have chosen to be situated at Goldsmiths for good reasons. We like ‘their distinctive approach to learning which encourages participants to explore ideas that challenge and push preconceived boundaries, meaning that they will be stretched intellectually and creatively to investigate fresh new ways of thinking’. Their understanding of the role of learning in society resonates with our own.
Why Choose Our Courses:
Educational Ethos - In keeping with contemporary educational ideas, we focus on the needs of each individual; their personal development and ability to become independent learners, whether as part of their continuing professional development or for those who just want to learn piano.
Inclusive Learning - The Piano Study Centre is wholly inclusive learning catering for all ages and all levels of piano playing ability from absolute beginners to professional master-pianists. Our courses are of different length, ranging from intensive weekend courses and short courses of 1 or 2 terms, through to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. We also cater for those interested in different styles of piano playing, from Classical to Contemporary, Jazz, Blue, Rock, Pop, Soul & Gospel, and Latin American.
Students’ Diversity - Our students reflect the nature of London in that they are multi-cultural group who work together well with each other and with their tutors. Our students, apart from studying piano in classes, bring with them many additional talents from their own professions and backgrounds. They give their own time and commitment to supporting their fellow learners and the work of our centre.
Piano in the community - Our Piano Study Centre also makes a major contribution to Goldsmiths commitment to providing educational opportunities for those from the wider community in the New Cross area and from London as a whole. We seek to offer opportunities piano learning, playing and performing for anyone in the community who is passionate about the piano - we offer reduced-fee, or no-fee, courses to disadvantaged groups (eg senior citizens, young musicians with special needs and/or talent who love to learn piano but with financial difficulty). By supporting the Piano Study Centre our students also support our community.
Our Tutors - All of our teachers in this centre are experienced teachers, authors, performers, researchers, writers and piano educators. We are passionate about piano teaching. We give great care to each individual’s needs during our students’ learning experiences and ensure that students receive a high quality experience. In common with all tutors in professional and higher education, the Piano Study Centre ensures that the learning and teaching activities of our tutors is underpinned by active and relevant research and scholarly activity. >>
